One of my favorite parts of being a family photographer is watching families grow through the years. There is something incredibly special about being invited back again and again to capture the milestones, changes, and beautiful seasons of life that happen in between sessions. It is truly an honor to become a family’s photographer.
I first met Emily and Brandon years ago when I photographed Emily’s maternity session while she was expecting their first daughter. Since then, their family has grown from three to five, and this spring I had the joy of photographing them once again. This time was with their adorable twin girls in tow.
We met at Oak Grove Park in Ripon, one of my favorite locations whenever I am photographing families in the area. The park offers beautiful open spaces, mature trees, and the most incredible golden-hour light. On this particular evening, the sun was setting perfectly, creating the warm, glowing backdrop that every family photographer hopes for.
The girls were absolutely wonderful throughout the session. The twins were sweet and patient, and their big sister Jane was an absolute superstar. She knew exactly how to smile for the camera, but my favorite moments were the ones where she simply got to be herself. Whether she was kissing her baby sisters on the head, snuggling up to Dad, or laughing as she was tossed into the air, her personality shined through in every image.
As much as I love capturing the traditional “everyone looking at the camera” portraits, my favorite photographs are often the in-between moments. The hugs, the laughter, the glances between parents, and the little interactions that happen naturally tell a family’s story in a way that posed photos never quite can.
One of the things I love most about photographing Emily and Brandon is seeing the love they have for each other. They are one of those couples whose relationship seems to grow stronger with time. Their love creates a foundation for their family, and you can feel that connection throughout the entire session. It is evident in the way they interact with their daughters and the way they continue to support one another through every stage of life.
Family photography is about so much more than creating beautiful images. It is about preserving memories and documenting the season of life you are currently living. Years from now, these photographs will tell the story of bedtime snuggles, baby giggles, toddler personalities, and the love that filled their home during this chapter.
Emily and Brandon, thank you for allowing me to continue documenting your family’s story. I am so grateful for your friendship, your support throughout the years, and the trust you place in me to capture these memories. Watching your family grow has been such a gift, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for all five of you.
